The Culture of Native Americans

When we think of the American Indians, most people acquainted with what they see on TV or when they play as a cowboy and an Indian as a child. When I was young, I spent some time in South Dakota when my father attended in the university. We live in the country in a small house and many of my playmates were local Indian children from the Indian reservation. Though I mingled and play with them every day, I still have so much to learn from the Indian culture. I think, there is no other group in our history that is rich in culture and art than the American Indians. Native American Culture spans the nation and struggled but also victorious. After all these years, it never was lost.

There are so many familiar symbols that originated by Native Americans. The Teepee and the Moccasins are from the American Indians to name a few. They have so many interesting customs such as the Totem Pole which represents a love one who passed away by honoring them on a large wood carved pole. The Dream Catcher which represents the good things in life while filtering out the bad. The American Indian is one of the original craftsman's of this country and they were making jewelry, rugs, art work and even dolls long before the West had settled by the white man.
