Living Together

Many young couples today prefer living together before marriage. This is not a bad idea at lest you will know if it's going to work.

If you are going to go down this road there are a few rules you should apply to the relationship. You should both make an agreement that will govern the rights of each other while living together. You do not have to go to an attorney just make it up between yourselves.

Many couples while living together will acquire property such as the condo or an automobile or your furniture. Be sure to list what property is owned jointly and which is individually owned. Another important factor is to list who is responsible for the debts in the relationship.

Remember when you first meet and are living happily together very few legal problems will arise. The problem arises if one spouse is unhappy and decides to back out of the relationship. This agreement will give you peace of mind as to who is responsible for what property and also which debts must be paid. So to have a stress-free relationship simply list all of your responsibilities on a sheet of paper and have both parties sign it. This is what is commonly known as a cohabitation agreement.
